Tips for Getting the Most out of the Retreat

This Family-Building Leadership Retreat is not your typical meeting—leave your heels at home—and come as you are.

Attire

PACK YOUR JEANS, YOGA PANTS, OR ATHLEISURE WEAR

The dress code is casual for the retreat. Comfy-casual is encouraged. Dress up or down—whatever you like!

Vocabulary

OMIT THE WORDS “PANEL” AND “PANELIST” FROM YOUR VOCABULARY

Everyone is a speaker. This retreat is designed around small, interactive group sessions so everyone can take part. Instead of “panelists,” we use prompts to start the conversation—and then everyone is expected to contribute their insights, challenges, lessons, recommendations, or questions. Come ready to participate in every session.

No Talking Points

THROW AWAY YOUR TALKING POINTS AND SLIDES

Origins is a private, closed-door space where you can have real, honest conversations with peers. Nothing gets shared outside the room. It’s not about showing off what’s going well—it’s about talking through the tough stuff too. We value openness here, including both the wins and the struggles.

Spend Time on the Why

THE WHY IS WHAT’S MOST HELPFUL

Focus less on what you did and more on how and why you did it. Use the time to share what really went into your decisions and what you learned along the way. What worked? What didn’t? What surprised you? How did you handle roadblocks or get people aligned? And looking back, what would you do differently?

Let Down Your Guard

SPEAK FROM THE HEART

Yes, you’re there representing your company—but since nothing gets shared outside the room, you can also just speak as yourself. Don’t be afraid to step outside your role, think a little bigger, and say what you really think—just no mean girl, please.

No Selling

NO SALES PITCHES

This retreat is meant to feel easy and low-pressure—you can wander around without worrying about getting pulled into a sales pitch. The conversations stay focused on real, practical insights, not the polished, corporate stuff people usually have to say in public.
